Cold-Forged Metal Cuffs & Tags

Move recognition from a procurement line item to a personal mark someone made themselves.

Using only hammers, steel stamps and a mallet, participants cold-form a metal cuff or engraved tag. Names, joining dates or company anniversaries can be struck into the surface, and the finished object reads closer to jewellery than to a craft souvenir.

What your team takes home

A long-service award or anniversary keepsake made by the recipient's own hand — far more likely to be kept than anything ordered from a catalogue.

ORIGINS

Where the craft comes from

Cold forging means shaping metal with no heat at all — hammer work only. What happens inside is measurable. Hammering multiplies dislocations in the crystal lattice until they tangle and obstruct one another, so the metal grows harder and stronger while losing ductility. The effect is called work hardening, and the only way back is annealing: heating the piece until it recrystallises and the tangles disperse.

So a cuff is not simply pressed into shape. Over the course of being struck it becomes a different state of the same metal — harder, springier and more durable than the strip it started as.

As for 925, it is a standard more than seven centuries old. In 1275 Edward I of England set a legal fineness for silver coin that works out to roughly 926 parts per thousand, all but identical to today's sterling standard. It is among the oldest material specifications still in everyday use.

METAL × MARK × MILESTONE

Materials and tools

Every hammer strike stays on the surface as texture, and the stamped letters turn a date, a name or a milestone into a mark that genuinely belongs to the person holding it.

  • Brass or 925 silver stock
  • Mallets, hammers and steel letter stamps
  • Polishing cloths and forming tools

FOR YOUR INTERNAL PROPOSAL

Wording you can quote directly

Suited to anniversaries, leadership gatherings and long-service recognition, where the act of forming and stamping the piece is what gives the moment its meaning.

  • 01Names, years or milestone messages tie the session directly to a specific organisational moment.
  • 02Cold forming avoids open flame while keeping the weight and ritual of real metalwork.
  • 03The result sits closer to jewellery than to memorabilia, so it is far more likely to stay in daily use.

Well suited to

  • Long-service awards
  • Leadership events
  • Company anniversaries
  • Higher-budget premium occasions
